Medicaid patients -- a disturbing trend that may have lasting
implications as healthcare reform kicks in over the next several years.

accusations in a Miami-Dade grand jury report that Jackson Health
System financial managers created a ``fictitious `net income figure' ''

The chaos continued on May 5th as management
attempted to give us another layoff list, but then pulled it back when
we started asking questions and pointing out obvious errors and bad
business decisions on the new list.

Efficiencies Task Force Begins Work
On April 23, our union met with Jackson Health System to set up the
Joint Labor/Management Efficiencies Task Force, called for in our
contract. The task force will be vetting the ideas submitted by more
than 400 SEIU Local 1991 members.

Local 1991 Challenging Layoffs
Our union has filed two class-action grievances against
Jackson management for mishandling the recently announced layoffs of
social workers, ARNPs and nurse educators. We are also challenging many
of the layoffs because they are bad business decisions that will affect
patient access and potential revenue for Jackson in the future.

Dues have not increased: They remain 1.25% of your salary
Union dues have not increased; they remain 1.25% of your salary. If you
see a change in the amount deducted from paycheck, it is because
management has installed a new payroll system that is calculating
deductions more accurately than was done by the previous system.

Layoff Notifications Update
On Wednesday, April 14, we received notification of 155 employee
layoffs from SEIU Local 1991’s bargaining units, including 78 RNs, 62
Professionals and 15 Attending Physicians.
